We all make plans, and take steps to achieve them. It's easy to make plans. The problem, most of the time, is taking the steps to successfully achieve them.
Over at Lifehack.org they have a very interesting article discussing why plans fail and provides helpful tips on how one can make plans effectively.
Personally, I have plans that I want to succeed in, and this article just came in good timing.
So I am going to summarize some points that I found helpful about this article, so we all can learn from it. Of course, I am writing this more as a reminder to myself so I can go back to it whenever I need to. Feel free to comment or express your own thoughts on the points listed here. ;)
1. Recognize your own planning strategy and predict the possible failures so you can make the necessary steps to avoid them.
2. Track both your success and failure record on/about your plan. Be flexible and think of what motivated you to start this plan in the first place.
3. Plan for the worst-case scenarios. The idea is to recognize the negative outcomes of the plan so that you can figure ways to handle it.
4. Flexible vs. Traditional Planning: The idea of flexible planning is not to plan at all. You don't focus on an end result. Instead, you take actions that will place you in more favorable positions. Traditional planning meanwhile, is what most of us do when we plan something. We take steps to get the end result.
All in all, I think that motivation still plays a big role in succeeding with a plan. Without enough motivation, we eventually lose the fire and the 'push' in taking actions towards fulfilling success of that plan.
